Many thanks to parent Alex Henel, who treated our entire student body to a demonstration of the abilities of Spot, a dog-shaped robot belonging to his employer, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. The $70,000 robot fascinated students and faculty alike as it followed commands, including sweeping the room, delivering cans of soda to students, and climbing the Great Hall stairs. A creation of Boston Dynamics, Spot robots work in many different fields, often performing tasks deemed too dangerous for humans.
Thank you, Alex, for a great presentation and for giving our students a chance to witness the power of robotics!
